Sereda and Hrytsenko Qualify for the Diving World Cup Super Final: With What Result
Ukraine earned five spots in the World Cup Super Final.
The duo of Oleksii Sereda and Mark Hrytsenko finished sixth in the synchronized 10m platform event at the Diving World Cup stop in Montreal. It happened during the final competition featuring Ukrainians in Canada, held March 1.
This year's World Cup series was set to include two stops — in Canada and Mexico. But ahead of the first event, it was announced that the Guadalajara competition had been canceled.
As a result, Montreal became the only qualifying event for the Super Final. It sent through the 12 best athletes in individual events and the top eight pairs in synchro.
How the final World Cup diving event in Montreal went, and how many spots the national team earned for the series Super Final — read on in this DeTalks article.
How Sereda and Hrytsenko Fared at the World Cup Stop in Montreal
- In the final, pairs from nine countries had to complete six dives: two required dives (with a difficulty coefficient of 2.0) and four optional dives.
- For their required dives, Sereda and Hrytsenko scored a combined 98.40 points, sharing provisional fourth place with the Mexican and Italian pairs. Their third dive, the simplest in the optional program, dropped the duo to sixth — 71.04 points.
- At the midpoint of the competition, the Ukrainians attempted their toughest dive, with a 3.7 coefficient, but due to Hrytsenko coming up short and overall lack of synchronization, scored just 67.71 points for it and stayed in sixth.
- Oleksii's fifth dive didn't go well — the athlete couldn't enter the water vertically, earning a score of 4.0 for the attempt. As a result, they dropped to seventh ahead of the final dive.
- On their final climb to the platform, the 'yellow and blues' reclaimed sixth place in the final with a total score of 377.19, securing their spot in the World Cup Super Final in Beijing.
