The Key Details on XO, Kitty Season Three

The premiere of XO, Kitty's third season is set for April 2, 2026. The season will include eight 30-minute episodes, all available at once on the platform.

Filming wrapped in summer 2025 in Seoul, where the crew shot every scene at real school locations and around the city. The screenplay, character development, and visual concept for season three were overseen by showrunner Valentina Garza, who previously worked on Gossip Girl. Netflix released the first photos from the shoot, showing scenes of cherry blossoms, parties, group gatherings, and the school.

About the Series

XO, Kitty is a Netflix young-adult romantic comedy-drama created by showrunner and writer Jenny Han, who also worked on the To All the Boys I've Loved Before trilogy and the series The Summer I Turned Pretty.

The series follows the life of Kitty Song Covey, an energetic teenage protagonist attending the prestigious KISS (Korean Independent School of Seoul), balancing schoolwork with friendship and romantic relationships.

XO, Kitty is a spinoff of the To All the Boys I've Loved Before franchise, but has its own standalone plot that unfolds around Kitty and her friends, without continuing Lara Jean's story from the original films. At the same time, the connection between the projects remains intact at the level of characters and background.

Kitty is Lara Jean's younger sister, familiar to audiences from the films, and it's her family history that becomes the starting point for her journey to Seoul and her enrollment at a Korean school. Jenny Han conceived the story as a chance to explore Kitty as a character in her own right, not just as the younger sister from the films.

The series is also distinguished by its linguistic and cultural hybridity. The dialogue blends English and Korean, and the plot consistently engages with themes of identity, adapting to a new country, and cross-cultural communication.

The project has also become a step toward broadening Asian representation in Netflix's young-adult content, since most of the cast has Korean or Asian heritage, and the story itself weaves in themes of heritage, family roots, and connection to Kitty's mother's culture.

The Series' Plot

The plot of XO, Kitty is built as a continuous coming-of-age arc — from Kitty's naive belief in perfect love in season one to deeper self-discovery, family revelations, and difficult emotional choices in the seasons that follow.

It all begins with Kitty Song Covey heading to Seoul to study, hoping to be closer to her boyfriend, Dae, while also learning more about her mother's past.

But right after she arrives, her romantic expectations fall apart: she learns that Dae had been secretly in a formal relationship with another girl, setting off a string of emotional conflicts and romantic misunderstandings. Alongside this, Kitty makes new friends and starts uncovering secrets tied to her family's history.

Season two focuses on Kitty's return to school and her attempts to sort out her own feelings and her family's past. The character digs deeper into her mother's legacy, facing new secrets and emotional discoveries that shape how she sees her family and herself.

The season two finale of XO, Kitty centers on the end of Kitty's school year and the development of her complicated romantic relationships. Though she tries to sort out her feelings and follows her older sister Lara Jean's advice, her feelings for Yuri and Min Ho's past mutual confession continue to shape her decisions.

In season three, Kitty Song Covey returns to KISS for her final year with a clear plan to make it unforgettable: spend time with friends, strengthen her ties with family in Korea, and make decisions about her future.

The central storyline remains her relationship with Min Ho, which still needs resolving. But unexpected events and new revelations disrupt her plans and force Kitty to learn to accept the unpredictable.
