Sarah J. Maas Announces a New A Court of Thorns and Roses Book: What We Know

American author Sarah J. Maas announced two new books continuing the A Court of Thorns and Roses series at once. The news came during a taping of Alexandra Cooper's comedy podcast Call Her Daddy.

About the New Books
On July 12, 2025, the author posted on Instagram with the caption 'First drafts done.' The video showed a notebook with a marking that sparked discussion among readers. Fans speculated that the marking read '6–8' and might hint at how many books the series would ultimately have.
Later, in an interview, Sarah J. Maas explained that the notebook actually showed the number six with a forward-pointing arrow.
“I'll say it was 'ACOTAR six' with an arrow pointing forward, to indicate what's coming ahead,” the author noted.
The series' sixth book is scheduled for release October 27, 2026, though Sarah hasn't revealed the title or shown a cover yet. The author also hasn't said which character's perspective the new installment will be told from.
At the same time, the author noted that working on the book gave her a fresh perspective on the story and its characters.
“That was one of the amazing things for me about writing it and how it turned out. I gained a lot of understanding,” the author said about whose perspective the story will follow.
Beyond the sixth book, the author also shared plans for the series' seventh installment, due out January 12, 2027. According to Maas, that story will come in four parts.
“It's basically going to be three physical volumes, but it's really one thing that no amount of glue, or any publishing factory, could ever hold together,” said Sarah J. Maas.
The author also noted that she isn't currently considering a screen adaptation of the book series, since she's fully focused on developing the literary story.
