KPop Demon Hunters Sequel: What We Know

Netflix has announced a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters.

Streaming platform Netflix has confirmed a sequel to its most popular film, KPop Demon Hunters. The platform's team announced the news on its official website.

"As a Korean director, I feel immense pride that audiences want more of this Korean story and our Korean characters. There's so much more in this world we've built, and I'm excited to show you. This is just the beginning," said Maggie Kang, the film's co-director.

What We Know About the Sequel

Tudum, Netflix's streaming news platform, announced the sequel to KPop Demon Hunters. Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will once again direct.

The film will be the first project under an exclusive multi-year deal between Netflix and Kang and Appelhans to create animated projects, in which they'll work as both writers and directors.

"We prepared so much possible backstory. There are obviously a lot of unanswered questions and unexplored areas, and we had to leave them out, because in 85 minutes you can only tell so much of a movie.

This was Rumi's story, and we do have backstories for Zoey and Mira — ones we actually included in the film, but this wasn't the movie for those stories," said Maggie Kang.

That said, an exact release date for the sequel hasn't been announced yet.

What KPop Demon Hunters Is About

KPop Demon Hunters follows the band HUNTR/X — superstars who lead a double life alongside their music careers.

Off stage, the artists work as demon hunters, protecting their fans from supernatural creatures. The girls' main rivals are the boy band Saja Boys — a group made up of demons operating undercover.

The animated film KPop Demon Hunters, created in collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation, has drawn over 500 million views since premiering on Netflix. The film was nominated for Academy Awards in the Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song categories, for the track 'Golden,' which also won a Grammy Award.
